WZB+MfN: Wissenschaft, natürlich!
All the time in the world
How do we talk to each other about energy and its transition?
We all desire warm homes in winter and cool ones in summer, use electricity daily, and walk less. In Germany, energy and the question of energy supply concern us daily, though often unconsciously. However, the uncontrolled use of resources threatens the planet's ecological foundations. Environmental destruction and the potential for mass extinction requires us to change the way we think about our consumption.
The energy issue is not only a technical, economic, or societal challenge, but also a matter of perception - particularly how we understand time. How do we, as inhabitants of industrialized nations, perceive planetary resources that formed over millions of years but are rapidly consumed in the human era? How distant does the climate crisis feel? And how much time remains to create a fair, sustainable energy future? Can we make decisions about things we can’t yet imagine?
On January 20th, in the "Sauriersaal" in the Museum für Naturkunde, literature scholar Elisabeth Heyne, sociologist Daniela Russ, and political scientist Weert Canzler will discuss the role of time, perception, and imagination in the energy transition and how we shape our understanding of the future.
The event is part of the cooperation of the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. The Event is free, however we ask you to please register here beforehand.
