On a Monday evening in January, the Dinosauriersaal of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin transformed into a fascinating stage for a game night dedicated to Darwin. Against the impressive backdrop of dinosaur skeletons, game enthusiasts gathered to explore a selection of board games focusing on evolution and Darwinian themes. Christoph Willmes, an expert on the history of board games, gave an insightful talk on the growing popularity of evolutionary themes in board games. He highlighted how these games are able to convey basic scientific principles in an emotionally accessible way. The evening provided a unique opportunity to discover scientific knowledge through play and led to deeper discussions on a variety of social, political and scientific issues. The event allowed participants to immerse themselves in Darwin's world and biodiversity far beyond the boundaries of pure entertainment. It opened up new perspectives on the importance of biodiversity and the innovative use of games in education, while fostering a critical exchange on pressing socio-political issues.
The project was initiated within the framework of the Netzwerk Naturwissen by Dr. Martin Reich (BIOCOM AG) in cooperation with Lukas Booch and Christoph Willems from the Boardgame Historian project and the Blick auf´s Brett initiative.
