Bats in the City

July 16th, 9 to 10pm at the Klimainsel Wilmersdorf

It's getting hotter and hotter in Berlin... Where do we go when we want to cool off? The green oasis of the Klimainsel Wilmersdorf, where we have already been able to conduct events with the Netzwerk Naturwissen, is a wonderful place for this. This is why we are looking forward to being guests there again on Wednesday, July 16, 2025! Because climate protection and biodiversity are inextricably linked and so this time the Klimainsel will become an open-air laboratory:

As part of their “Bats in the City” course, students from the FU Berlin will be carrying out bat monitoring at the Klimainsel Wilmersdorf and then presenting the collected data and results to the public - come along, listen and join the discussion!

Together we will find out which bat species can be found in the middle of our city, what spatial requirements they have and what dangers they are exposed to. We will discuss the students' findings and, together with Tanja Straka from the FU Berlin, and Netzwerk Naturwissen member, go on an acoustic discovery tour to listen to the animal inhabitants. Using special ultrasound detectors, we will track down the bats, which can also be seen with the naked eye at dusk - we are excited to see which flying neighbors we will meet!
